Special Operations Unit

Lieutenant Tim Williams supervises the Randall County Sheriff’s Special Operations Unit (SOU) which consists of the SWAT unit, Narcotics unit, K-9 officers, the Firearms Training Range and warrants officers. Lt. Williams earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from WTAMU. Starting his Law Enforcement career in 1980 with the Amarillo Police Department, Lt. Williams spent 32 years with APD and saw assignments in patrol, CID and SWAT. He spent most of his career at APD assigned full time to the SWAT unit. He is an adjunct instructor for Amarillo College, Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT), Department of Energy, IALEFI, and U.S. State Department.

The Randall County Sheriff’s Special Operations Unit (S.O.U.) is a multifaceted unit which operates at the highest levels of modern law enforcement. Officers assigned to the S.O.U. are highly trained and have access to the latest equipment and techniques in law enforcement technology. The multiple teams which makeup the S.O.U. include the SWAT Team, the Tactical Medical Team, the Narcotics Enforcement Team, K-9 deputies, and Warrants deputies. In addition, S.O.U. has several deputies assigned to federal agencies as Task Force Officers. With these specialized teams staffed by experienced and well trained deputies, S.O.U. is able to investigate difficult cases, mitigate critical incidents, perform tactical medical rescues, and apprehend violent offenders as well as many other unique missions. We have an obligation and a commitment to be ready to respond to any and all critical situations in order to serve and protect the citizens of Randall County.
